Barbara Parsons Dobbs passed away on April 21, 2014 in her home in Calhoun, Georgia. She was born in Gordon County on May 19, 1930, the daughter of the late Sarah Robbins Parsons and DC Parsons. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Merrill Dobbs, and her son, Ron Dobbs, both of Calhoun; her daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Gary Wolfe of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her daughter, Drena Dobbs of Ames, Iowa; and her daughter and son-in-law Teena and Ed Moody of Hermosa Beach, California. Mrs. Dobbs has eight grandchildren: Sarah Dobbs Ostuw and her husband Will, Christina Dobbs, Amy Wolfe, David Wolfe, Brittney Henderson, Katrina Henderson, Jonathan Moody, Michele Moody, and 2 great-grandchildren: Braxton Grady Henderson and Merrill Ave Ostuw. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marjorie Dobbs Lovvorn of Calhoun, her nieces, Candi Chitwood, Yvonne Smith Cashon, and Robin Lovvorn Willis, and nephews, Hank Chitwood and Bill Lovvorn, Jr. Barbara Dobbs grew up in Redbud and was valedictorian of her Redbud High School class in 1946. Pri-or to her marriage to Merrill Dobbs in 1949, she worked at Haney Jewelry Company in Calhoun. She was a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church and a much-loved member of the Bradley Wellness Center in Dalton. The Dobbs family would like to express gratitude to the many people who have cared for Barbara, with a special thanks to her compassionate doctor, Dr. Christopher Yamamoto, and his staff, and to all her friends and neighbors for the loving concern and assistance they have shown her throughout the years. We are grateful to Heyman Hospice Care at Floyd, who helped to make her last days comfortable, especially Jerrie McDougle. God bless her loving caregivers, Darlene Jackson, Judy Thurman, Elaine Kinman, Dionne Lowry, Mara Turner, Tammy Wilson, Darlene Connell, Mary Goswick, and Roxanne Fountain. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Frank Mills and Rev. Katie Mattox on Friday, April 25, at 4:30 pm in the Calhoun First United Methodist Church. Prior to the service, the Dobbs family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm in the church Fellowship Hall.
