Lewis Joseph DiPrima

Lewis Joseph DiPrima, age 87 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 in Gordon Hospital. Lewis was born on October 24, 1926 in Floyd County to the late Sam DiPrima and Ivie Jones DiPrima. He proudly served in the United States Army, and was known as a master shoemaker, winning many national awards. He later expanded and opened a group of stores that continue today, and are run by his children. In his free time, he and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Lewis was an original member and active in starting the St. Clement’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Knights of Columbus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Sam DiPrima, Jr., Charlie DiPrima, Romeo DiPrima, and Nino DiPrima. Mr. DiPrima is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife Dorothy P. DiPrima of Calhoun; son, David DiPrima and his wife Ruth of Atlanta, GA; three daughters, Judy D. Sloan and her husband Phil, Susan D. Elphingstone and her husband Bill all of Calhoun, and Maria D. Holbert and her husband Barry of Fairmount; one sister, Madeline D. Perron of St. Paul, MN; eight grandchildren, Brett Sloan, Robin Proffitt, Michael DiPrima, Josh Holbert, Caleb Holbert, Katie Holbert, Scottie Elphingstone, and Joe Elphingstone; and five great-grandchildren also survive. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, March 29th at 12:00pm from the St. Clements Catholic Church with Father Joseph Shaute officiating. Bud and Vickie Owens will have charge of music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
