Nancy Ruth Steward

Nancy Ruth Steward, age 81 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at her residence. Nancy was born on October 28, 1932 in Cartersville, GA to the late Claude Wilson Luke and Ruth Casey Luke. She was a founding board member of the Calhoun Arts Center, and a retired Para Professional at both Swain Elementary and Red Bud High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude William Luke and Charles Patrick Luke. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Leon J. Steward, Jr. of Calhoun; daughter, Claudia P. Stearns and her husband Fred of Calhoun; two sisters-in-law, Betty McConnell of Charleston, SC, and Marzelle Luke of Atlanta; one granddaughter, Kristin Stearns of Atlanta. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, May 10th at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Clifford Free officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will be James Binnicker, David Pass, Max Morrison, Fred Stearns, Richard Surdykowski, and Arturio Tejeda. Honorary Pallbearers will be Amanda Goolsby, Tabetha Redden, Reva Green, Leslie and David Deperro, and Jody Sanderson. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
