Ruth Colquitt Owings

Mrs. Ruth C. Owings, age 97 of the Fog Road Community, Resaca, died Saturday, February 11 in Gordon Health Care following an extended illness. Ruth was born in Cedartown, January 27, 1920, daughter of the late John T. Colquitt and Annie Liddelle West Colquitt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H. Owings, Jr. on October 26, 2004. She and Henry had resided in Gordon County since 1964. She loved flower gardening, quilting, playing piano, organ, and enjoyed reading. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Calhoun. She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Cronon and her husband, Vairon of Resaca; one sister, Catherine Shackelford of Cedartown; one granddaughter, Crissy Cronon Baker and her husband, Clay; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Owen Wheeler. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 13 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Chattooga County. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 PM, Monday preceding the funeral at Thomas Funeral Home.
