1SG James Harold Edward Stamey, age 90, of Gordon County, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at Morning Point. Born on June 11, 1935, he was a dedicated member of his community and a proud Army veteran.
Harold served in the Georgia National Guard for more than 35 years and retired with the esteemed rank of 1SG. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his military service; he was known for his hardworking nature and for always expecting the best from those around him. An ardent supporter of discipline and dedication, Harold embodied the values of the Army throughout his life.
A resident of Gordon County for most of his life, Harold attended Mount Berry College, where he laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to learning and personal growth. His commitment to self-improvement and the betterment of those around him was reflected in all aspects of his life.
In addition to his military service, Harold was deeply involved in his faith and community. He was a long-time member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and was active within the Resaca Masonic Lodge and the Echota Vann Shrine, where he fostered many friendships and connections throughout the years.
Family and love marked Harold's life. He was married to Jacqueline Cline Stamey for an incredible 66 years, cherishing every moment spent together. He is also survived by his son, James D. Stamey; daughters, Linda Tatum and Joyce Davis; grandchildren, David Langston, Katherine Stamey, and De De Curry; great-grandchildren, Daniel Langston and Madison Scott, as well as two great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Claude E. Stamey; mother, Rosa Hudgins Stamey; sister, Claudine Tritt; and brothers, Austin Stamey and Carlton Stamey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22nd, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, September 22nd, at 2 PM, from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Noffsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Full Military Rites followed by Masonic Last Rites. Pallbearers serving will include members of the Shrine and Masonic Lodges.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Wesley Chapel Methodist Church @ 279 Wesley Chapel Road SE, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701.
