Bernice Smith Richardson

Bernice Smith Richardson, age 97 of Gordon County, GA and formerly of Caretta, WV, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Calhoun, GA. Bernice was born on February 3, 1923 in Yukon, WV, daughter of the late Noah Smith and Nancy Elizabeth Baldwin Smith. In addition to her parents, Bernice was also preceded in death by: her husband, Roy Lee Richardson; and a daughter, Norma Sue Richardson Chase; and sisters, Dora, Ora, Mollie, Julie, Mary, Ruth, and Etta; and brothers, Berlin, Thomas, Albert, Wilford, and Newt. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Caretta, WV. Left to cherish her life and memory are: her daughter, Phyllis King of GA; two sons, Roy Richardson, JR and his wife Dorothy of GA and Greg Richardson of Iraq; eight grandchildren, Chris Chase, Harry Chase, Jonathan Chase, Scott King, Monica Richardson, Brandi Richardson, Samantha Richardson, and Adam Richardson; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, August 22nd at 11 AM EST from the Chapel of Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA. with Rev. Darrell Long officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park in Bluefield, WV. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22nd from 10 AM until the funeral hour at 11 AM at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA.
