Eugene Talmadge Sewell

Eugene Talmadge Sewell, age 83 of Plainville, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Redmond Regional Medical Center of Rome, GA surrounded by his family. Eugene was born on May 7, 1937 in Carters, GA, son of the late Leonard Sewell and Hester Haney Sewell. In addition to his parents, Eugene was also preceded in death by three brothers, Aleck Sewell, Pat Sewell, and James Jackson. Eugene serviced his country in the United States Army and The Army Reserve in Dalton, GA. He was a member of Sugar Valley Masonic Lodge and Gordon County Masonic Low Twelve Club. In earlier years, Eugene was on the Plainville Recreation Department Commission and also umpired and coached ball. Eugene attended West Union Baptist Church and was retired from Quality Finishers. Eugene is survived by: his wife, Melba Fuller Sewell of the residence; two sons, Sidney Sewell of Calhoun, GA and Wayne Sewell of Plainville, GA; three grandchildren, Ethan Sewell, Ellie Sewell, and Easton Sewell; four sisters, Clara Hicks, Agnes Freeman and her husband Herman, Marie Cochran and her husband Ricky, and Dyan Nelson and her husband Steve; one brother, Max Sewell and his wife Joyce; three sisters-in-law, Pearlie Fuller, Martha Sewell, and Evelyn Sewell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11 AM in West Union Cemetery with Reverend Jerry Brooks in charge of graveside rites. Pallbearers serving are: Gregg Jones, KM Miller, Bruce Hicks, Jerry Hicks, Michael Hicks, and Jeff Freeman. Malcolm Talley will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Thomas Funeral Home.
