Gene Ratcliff

Reverend Gene Ratcliff, age 83 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at his residence. Eugene was born on June 25, 1934 in Whitfield County, GA to the late James Ratcliff and Frankie Mullinax Ratcliff. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, Eugene was a devoted Pastor of many churches for 52 ½ years in Tennessee, Whitfield County, Murray County, and Gordon County. He saw many souls saved under his preaching the word of God. Eugene was a wonderful man and a faithful servant to everyone. He was Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Ranger, GA, which in August 2017 he had to resign due to his declining health. He loved Liberty Church with all of his heart and hated to leave it. Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 ½ years, Jessie Ratcliff; son, Steve Ratcliff and his wife Angie; daughter, Joyce Goble and her husband Larry; brother, J.R. Ratcliff and his wife Mary; three grandchildren, Caleb Ratcliff, LaShea Newton and her husband Brent, and Brent Hughes and his wife Tracy; and four great-grandchildren, Karsen Newton, Sadie Newton, Hailey Hughes, and Brayden Hughes. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, March 18th at 4:30 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Reggie Nations, Reverend Joel Alexander, and Terry Collis officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park with Reverend James Nix in charge of grave side rites. Pallbearers serving are Clyde Garland, Vermon Flood, Ricky Silvers, Mont Boling, Bobby Parker, and Mike Merritt. Honorary Pallbearers are grandson Caleb Ratcliff, grandson Brent Hughes, Rex Anderson, Larry Wilson, Curtis Easley, Rick Garrison, William Daniel, Donnie Flood, Ogle Roberts, Ken Withrow, and Hal Lowrance. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 PM until the funeral hour at 4:30 PM at Thomas Funeral Home. The family requests that no food be brought to the funeral home.
