Dr. Wallin taught me in 5th grade at Belwood. I remember being in in 3rd and 4th grade and hearing stories about a teacher who would throw tennis balls if his students fell asleep. Sure enough it was Dr. Wallin, and when I found out it he was my home room teacher, I knew I was in for an interesting year. When someone would ask to use the restroom, he would wittingly reply "I dont know, can you?". We learned quickly to ask "May I?" instead. He was a great teacher with a great laugh, and will forever be a part of my childhood.

You are so right. He was so much fun to travel with, always bigger than life. He made everyone feel welcome no matter what. His sermons were always spot on and delivered with heart and passion. He has left his mark of love on 1000s of us. I loved his singing voice and he was the best prayer leader I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Such a great friend and he was so smart. He memorized not only the Bible but other books as well. He knew them like the back of his hand. My dear beloved Mentor. His legacy will live forever. God Bless Ralph and the Wallin Family always.

...My heart is just so numb! I had the pleasure of being a student of Dr. Wallin's at Belwood Elementary in the 5th grade. My life was never the same from that year forward. Not only was he a teacher but he truly cared about his "kids" and he was never afraid to say what was on his mind. We made soap in class along with homemade peanut brittle and Mrs. Becky made us some homemade biscuits and Ralph "taught" us to poke a hole in the middle and pour fresh honey into. So many memories from the 5th grade! Not to mention the pool party that he invited the ENTIRE 5th grade to :joy: and who could forget the the tennis balls??? I definitely had my fair share thrown at me! There will never be another like him. The thing that stands out the most is when we would line up to go down the hall he would always say "Walk with you head up not looking down...all that you need will always be ahead of you never down" I was blessed enough to keep contact with Dr. Wallin throughout the years. One of my dear friends married Matt and I loved every chance we had to reminisce.

Thank you for all of your years of service! As a teacher myself, I think back to all of those teachers who influenced me. You were my 5th grade teacher and I remember watching the OJ Simpson trial and all those tennis balls! Thank you for those memories and always making us feel connected and loved!
