Judith McAllister McCarver, 80, passed away January 19, 2017, after an extended stay at WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, GA. Judy was born on June 25, 1936 in Piedmont, AL, and was a graduate of Jacksonville State University. She lived in Calhoun, GA, from 1969 to 2013 after which she and Gerald moved to Roswell, GA to live closer to family. While living in Calhoun, she was an active member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church where she served in the choir and UMW and was a long-time member of the Fellowship Sunday School class. Judy retired from Calhoun High School after teaching business education there for twenty-four years. Before and after retirement, Judy and Gerald shared a love of RV camping and travel and were ac-tive members of the NorWeGA Good Sam Camping Club. Judy and Gerald were married for 55 years and were beloved grandparents to their eight grandchildren. Judy was an avid crafter, gifting treasured ceramic nativity scenes, Santa figurines, and porcelain dolls to family and friends. Calhoun First UMC still decorates the sanctuary Christmas tree with the “Christmon” decorations she made. A wonderful cook, Judy ran a bakery out of her apartment in her assisted living res-idence in her later years making cakes, pies, and her famous sourdough bread for residents and staff. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, James Rufus McAllister and Vera Ledbetter McAllister; her husband, Gerald McCarver; and her brother, Bobby McAllister. Judy is survived by: Son Stacey (Sherry) McCarver, Marietta, GA; Daughters Kim (Don) Owen, Swedesboro, NJ; Claudia (John) Hudson, Lawrenceville, GA; Grandchildren Katie (Luis) Miranda, Marietta, GA; Christo-pher (Katrina) McCarver, Watkinsville, GA; Garren and Laken Owen, Swedesboro, NJ; Aleix, Riley, Kaelyn, and Devyn Hudson, Lawrenceville, GA; Great-Granddaughter, Amelia Belle McCarver, Watkinsville, GA; and a second Great-Grandaughter (Miranda) to be born in June 2017; nephew Britt McAllister, St. Peters-burg, FL; niece Leslie (Todd) Terrell, Atlanta, GA; and Sister-in-Law, Ann Mitchell, Birmingham, AL. Pall bearers are: Eddie Beason, Britt McAllister, Christopher McCarver, Luis Miranda, Garren Owen, and Billy Spires. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calhoun First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 517, Calhoun, GA 30703 or to The United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22 at Thomas Funeral Home; 535 Red Bud Road NE, Calhoun, GA 30701. The Reverend Sharon Waters and Pas-tor Eddie Herring will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hughes-Moragne Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama on Monday January 23rd at 2 pm CST.
