Laura Ann Whaley

Laura Ann Whaley, age 63 of Calhoun, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at her residence. Ann was born on February 18, 1957 in Sylacauga, AL, daughter of the late Arthur J. Hurst and Laverne Gates Hurst. In addition to her parents, Ann was also preceded in death by: her brother, Arthur “Sonny” Hurst; and daughter-in-law, Tracey Lynn Whaley. Laura was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Sylacauga, AL and moved to Gordon County in 1991. Prior to her retirement, Ann was employed by Wholesale Food Outlet and Wal-Mart. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, made the best corn bread, and loved cats. Ann was the best grandmother anyone could ask for. Ann is survived by: her husband of 46 years, Gary Lee Whaley of Calhoun, GA; son, Alan Whaley and his wife Penny of Adairsville, GA; grandson, Alex Whaley of Calhoun, GA; three sisters, Dimple Hill of South Carolina, Carolyn Moulder of Pascagoula, MS, and Patsy Scholtz of Pensacola, FL; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Whaley of Ohatchee, AL and Wesley Whaley of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Doris Jean Phillip of Talladega, AL; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 3 PM in Fain Cemetery with Reverend Mike Evans officiating. Pallbearers serving are: William Whaley, Christian Whaley, Dwayne Tidwell, Jonathan Bagley, Landon Russ, and Logan Jones. Will Hogan will be an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home. Donations in memory of Ann can be made to the family and would be greatly appreciated.
