Robert Faith

Mr. Robert Simpson “Bobby” Faith, 89, passed away in Calhoun on June 20, 2016, following a brief illness. He was born in Calhoun on January 11, 1927, the son of the late Joseph William Faith and the late Maude Vesta Campbell Faith. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Billie Evelyn Logan Faith ; six brothers: Joseph Fred Faith, Paul Edward “Buddie” Faith, Howard Austin “Mac” Faith, William Frederick Faith, Jack Melvin Faith and Harold L. “Ooky” Faith ; and three sisters: Willene E. Faith Agee, Nellie Jo Faith Chapman and Maude Evelyn Faith Wofford Peterson. Faith family members have resided in Gordon County for five generations. Bobby’s father and mother were married on May 14, 1904 at the Confederate Cemetery in Resaca and had seven sons and three daughters throughout the years until 1928. His father and two of his brothers were well known as employees with the NC & St. L. Railway which provided passenger service between Chattanooga and Atlanta. His father was employed with the railway for more than 41 years. Bobby also had a brother who served on the Gordon County Commission for 12 years, eight of which were as a dedicated chairman with a very successful record of improvements for the county. Bobby and four of his brothers served on active duty at the same time in combat in World War II with four volunteering for the U.S. Navy and one for the U.S. Army. Bobby fought in the South Pacific, assigned as a gunnery chief aboard a destroyer, the U.S.S. Colorado (PACFLT). He remained in the U.S. Navy after the war, retiring in 1966 with over 20 years of honorable service to his country. Bobby and Billie married in 1967 and settled in Collinsville, Mississippi where he found employment with the Lockheed Aircraft Company as a C-130 supervisor. He retired from the company in 1986 and they remained longtime residents in Collinsville and the Greater Meridian Area where they both were very active in community affairs. They started two businesses after his retirement from Lockheed and later established their own highly successful one in support of accounting, tax and other business matters for a select group of clients in the area. They were always a very loving couple and it was obvious that he was fully dedicated to her and that they both cared for each other deeply. In 2015, it became necessary for Bobby to return to Georgia with Billie to obtain better medical attention for her. She passed away shortly thereafter in Calhoun on August 10, 2015. Bobby is survived by one son, Robert Gregory (Susan) Faith, one grandson, Travis L. (Jennifer) Faith, one granddaughter, Amanda Faith, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and close cousins. The death of Mr. Robert Simpson “Bobby” Faith marks the passing of all immediate Faith-Campbell family members - - a lineage which has made significant contributions to progress in and to the history of the Calhoun/Gordon County Community.
