Betty Jean Stevenson Black, age 91 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Gordon Health & Rehabilitation.

 

Betty was born on July 22, 1931, in Dalton, GA, daughter of the late Norman F. Stevenson and Bessie Jane Anderson Stevenson. In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by: her husband, Ralph E. Black; two sons, Steven Mark Black and Ralph Alan Black; two sisters, Louise Elizabeth Stevenson and Dorothy Harcourt; and grandson, Sean Black. Betty worked as a lab technician for over 25 years, just before her husband, Ralph opened Dalton Sample where she worked alongside him as well as additional family businesses. She was a member of Rock Bridge Community Church of Dalton. Betty loved to travel and devoted her life to her family.

 

Betty is survived by: her daughter, Anne Pitts and her husband Walter; two daughters-in-law, Mary Black and Monica Westenskow; sister-in-law, Jean Painter; grandchildren, Betsy Childers and her husband Aaron, Matthew Pitts and his wife Jill, Robert Black and his wife Misty, Stephanie Clinger and her husband Jonathan, Rachel Hohol and her husband Patrick, Christopher Black and his wife Jenna, Megan Barrott and her husband Tyson, and Jeremiah Jamison and his wife Christy; thirteen great-grandchildren; a special friend, Charleen Hogg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Gordon Health & Rehabilitation for their care.

 

A celebration of the life of Betty will be conducted on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 2 PM from the Calhoun First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Alfred Turley officiating.

 

The family will receive friends following the service.
