Betty Nichols Scoggins

Betty Nichols Scoggins, 82 of Calhoun, GA, passed away at 1:05 AM, Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her residence.

Betty was born, May 30, 1939 in Calhoun, GA, a daughter of the late Lawrence M. Nichols and Mary Ruth Jones Nichols. In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by: her husband, Billy Scoggins; son, Lawrence Edward Scoggins; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jule and Eula Scoggins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Weldon Scoggins and his wife Ruby, Glenn Scoggins and his wife Sybil, Anita Garren and her husband Clarence, Lucille Garland and her husband Don, and Marva Jean Scoggins.

Betty graduated from Calhoun High School and later attended West Georgia College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. During her illness she remained positive and was uplifting to all who were around her. She felt so grateful and blessed to have the support and outpouring of love from her church-family, friends and health care workers not only for herself but also from her husband’s illness which occurred at the same time as hers.

Betty and her husband owned and operated Scoggins Printing and Office Supply. She was active in the community through projects in the Sequoyah Garden Club, the Beautification Committee, and the Gordon County Historical Society. She enjoyed fellowship and friendship in several bridge clubs and traveling to University of Georgia games, Lake Guntersville, and spending time with family and friends.


Betty is survived by: one daughter, Debbie S. Muse; two grandchildren, Brad Brown and his wife Sarah and Nicholas Muse and his wife Jennifer; two great grandchildren, Ava Brown and Eli Muse; a brother-in-law, Darrell Scoggins; and several special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 18th at 1PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving are: Brad Brown, Nicholas Muse, Mike Scoggins, Carl Scoggins, David Scoggins, Scott Clements, Al Edwards, and Russ Edwards.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Bobby House, Jerry Nichols, Darrell Scoggins, Mitchell Scoggins, Kyle Young, and Skipper Stewart.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 17th from 5 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home.
