Cecil William "Bill" Martin

October 4, 1936 — July 13, 2025

Calhoun

Cecil William Martin, lovingly known as Bill Martin, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on October 4, 1936, Bill lived a life marked by unwavering optimism, deep faith, and a great love for his family.

A man who always saw the glass as half full, Bill was known for his encouraging words, warm presence, and genuine positivity. His ability to uplift others and see the good in every situation was a gift that touched many lives.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Martin, and his cherished daughters, Angela Callahan and Meredith Gumm. Also, his brother Gerald Martin.

He leaves behind a proud and loving legacy in his grandchildren: Ross Callahan, Jacob Callahan, Kailey Abshire, Conner Gumm, and Marygrace Gumm. Bill is proceeded in death by his sister Gwendolyn Martin and Juanita Garner.

He was a proud graduate of Auburn University, having earned a scholarship through his hard work at the local paper mill—an early testament to his dedication and drive. Bill went on to become a successful businessman, founding United Utility Sales and developing several ventures throughout his life. Whatever Bill set his mind to, he pursued with purpose and passion.

Above all, Bill was an amazing father and grandfather—an amazing “Daddio ” and “Papa.” He never missed a game, performance, or special event for his children or grandchildren. He was always there—cheering in the stands, smiling in the crowd, offering encouragement and support. His presence was a steady, loving force in their lives, and the deep relationships he built with his family were a reflection of the time, heart, and care he gave so freely.

Though our hearts are heavy with the loss, we are comforted by the legacy Bill leaves behind: a life filled with love, perseverance, joy, and gratitude. He taught us all to live life to the fullest and to embrace every opportunity with courage and heart.

We know he’s with Jesus now, reunited with his loved ones in Heaven, and that brings us comfort and peace even in our sorrow.

We will miss you deeply, Daddio! Your light, your laughter, and your love remain with us always.
