SMSgt. (Ret.) Charles Martin Williams, 93, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. He was a longtime Calhoun and Gordon County attorney. He was born on January 11, 1933 to the late Paul Hamby Williams and Carrie Lee Hurst.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Gene; a son, William Kraig Williams; brothers, Darrell Williams and Donald Williams; and sisters, Pauline Williams, Louise Williams, Bobby Jo Casey, and Kathryn Clark.
After graduating from Resaca High School in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for 21 years in active duty and the reserves. After his active service, he began working for Dobbins Air Force Base and attended pre-law classes in the evenings at UGA. He graduated with a law degree from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta in 1970. He was an attorney in the Calhoun and Gordon County community for more than 50 years. He continued his law practice on N. Piedmont Street until December 2020. In addition, he was appointed to the position of Juvenile Court Judge for the Cherokee Circuit and also served as Board Attorney for Gordon County Schools.
Mr. Williams enjoyed serving as a member of the Smyrna Third Degree Master Masons, the Gordon County Elks Club, and the Gordon County Toast Masters Club. He served as President of the Calhoun Lions Club and the Gordon County Bar Association. He was also a talented musician and enjoyed singing and playing in local gospel and bluegrass bands.
He is survived by his daughters, Kim Williams Battles of White, GA; Michele Williams Taylor and her husband, Joe, of Calhoun; Allison Williams Davidson and her husband, Jack, of Keller, TX; and Carrie Marie Williams Thomas and her husband, Ian, of Calhoun; two sisters, Murtice Long of Calhoun and Doris (Anthony) Lombard of Cleveland, TN; sister-in-law, Leah Mae Williams; brother-in-law, Thomas Brewer and his wife, Patsy, of Smyrna, GA; eight grandchildren, Brandi Coker (Bobby), William Williams, Jr., Andy Williams, Joseph Taylor (Liz), Anna Taylor, Jackson Davidson, Luke Davidson and Emily Thomas; and six great-grandchildren, Brysen Coker, Bailey Coker, Zane Williams, Leo Williams, Scarlette Williams, and William Williams. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 4 PM from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Honorable David K. Smith and Dr. Anthony Lombard officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tyler Brewer, Trey Brewer, Anthony Johns, Joseph Johns, Justin Johns, Austin Long, and Matthew Williams. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 2 PM until 4 PM at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with a time of fellowship.
