Dixie Elaine Rowan Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 18, 2023, at the age of 72. She was born on February 8, 1951, to her parents, Laral Rowan and Mary Lambert Rowan, in a small town filled with love and warmth. Dixie's journey on this earth came to an end, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Dixie was a woman of unwavering strength, resilience, and kindness. She faced life's challenges with grace and a smile that could brighten the darkest of days. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Michael Allen Smith, who preceded her in death. Together, they shared a bond that was a testament to enduring love.

Dixie's legacy lives on through her two sons, Jerry Smith and Scott Smith, and their loving spouses, Jill Smith and Kristi Smith. She was a source of unwavering support and love for her family, always ready with a listening ear and a caring heart. Her dedication to her children was unwavering, and her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchild was boundless.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion in the form of her grandchildren: Chavis Smith, Megan Settle, Hannah Smith, Hunter Smith, Eliza Smith, Elsie Smith, Chase Smith, and Brooke Smith. One great-grandchild, Everette Settle, was blessed to know her love and warmth.

In her professional life, Dixie worked diligently at the Department of Health and Human Resources for the State of West Virginia, where she made a positive impact on the lives of many. Her dedication to public service was a testament to her caring nature and commitment to making the world a better place.

Dixie called Calhoun, GA, her home for a year, during which she became an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she found solace and community within her church family. Prior to her residence in Calhoun, Dixie lived in Lewisburg, West Virginia, where she lived and raised her children.

To honor Dixie's memory, the family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 3 PM at the Lewisburg Seventh-day Adventist Church with visitation to follow.
