Mr. H. Eugene “Gene” Wilson, age 84 of Fairmount, passed away on Friday, November 29th at his residence.
Gene was born on October 12, 1935 in Fairmount, Ga to the late William Sollie Wilson and Nellie White Wilson. He had served in the United States Army and was a member of the Ryo/Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Lockheed Aircraft and was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for more than 16 years. Gene was a member of Morning Star Masonic Lodge #349 F&AM where he was the Past Master. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who adored spending time with his grandchildren. Gene was well known for his musical abilities and his love for Gospel Bluegrass music.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Ann Wilson; brother, Roy Melvin Wilson; sister, Brenda Wilson West.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mathews Wilson; son, Brian Wilson and his wife Bonnie of Talking Rock; Two daughters, Ginger McDougle and her husband Mitchell of Calhoun, Debra Stanley and her husband Tracy of Rydal; two brothers, Darrell Wilson and his wife Faye of Ranger, Virgil Wilson of Ranger; one sister, Carol Black of Fairmount; five grandchildren, Buddy Wilson, Bethany Rose McDougle, Kalie McDougle, Savannah Stanley, and Sydney Stanley; and one great grandchild, Riley Wilson.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, December 1st, 2 PM at Ryo/ Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Lamar Beason and Reverend Ronnie Howard officiating, Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites being conducted by the Morning Star Lodge #349 F&AM. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 5 PM Saturday at Thomas Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson will be taken to the church on Sunday to lie-in-state from 1 PM until the funeral hour.
