Irene Yeager Lowe

December 6, 1929 — November 30, 2023

Fairmount

Irene Yeager Lowe, born on December 6, 1929, passed away November 30, 2023, surrounded by the love of family and the memories of a life well-lived.

Irene's story began in Fairmount, Georgia. She was the daughter of R.H. Darnell and Augusta Pettit, and she grew up in a loving family alongside her brothers Robert, Herbert, and Gilbert, and sister Sara Goen. Irene's roots were firmly planted in the values of love, community, and faith.

After graduating from Fairmount High School, Irene continued her education at Shorter College, where she earned a degree in bookkeeping. Her pursuit of knowledge was a testament to her determination, often traveling many miles on the bus between Fairmount and Rome to achieve her academic goals.

In 1949, Irene married the Reverend Wayne Yeager, embarking on a 42-year journey of love and partnership until Wayne's passing in 1991. In 1999, Irene found love once again and married Mr. Bill Lowe. Their union was a source of joy and companionship until Bill's recent passing in 2023.

Irene is preceded in death by her first husband Wayne Yeager; her second husband Bill Lowe; her parents, R.H. and Augusta; her three brothers, Robert, Herbert, and Gilbert; and her sister Sara Goen.

Irene is survived by her son, Gary Yeager, and his partner, Rafael Guzman; her stepson, David Lowe of Putnam County; and her son Wayne Yeager and his wife Jan from Bessemer, AL. Irene's family extends to include her granddaughter Conda Parsley, married to Rick from Louisiana, and their three great-grandchildren: Yeager, Henderson, and Darla. Many nieces and nephews from Georgia and Oklahoma also survive. Irene is also survived by a special daughter, Pam Ryer and her husband Ronnie.

For many years, Irene was an integral part of Fairmount First Baptist Church. She shared her love for music as a member of the choir and displayed her artistic flair by arranging beautiful flowers. Her culinary skills were renowned, earning her the distinction of being the "best cook in the church." Irene's connection to the church was deep-rooted; her father, R.H. Darnell, served as a trustee, and a dedicated bench stands in his honor.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Rene and her family, Kathy, and the entire staff at The Fountains in Calhoun for their tender care and support in Irene's final days.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 2pm-5pm at Thomas Funeral Home. The Ms. Lowe will lie in state at Fairmount First Baptist Church from 1pm – 2pm on Monday, December 4, 2023, and her funeral will begin at 2pm at Fairmount First Baptist.

The Reverend at the church will lead the funeral service, and the family has requested that the Seniors’ Sunday School Class serve as honorary pallbearers. Milton White and David Burton will serve as pallbearers.

Thomas Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Irene Darnell Lowe during this difficult time.
