Jack Hall Underwood

Jack Hall Underwood, Jr., age 84, of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026 at his residence.

Jack was born on November 29, 1941 in Gordon County, GA, son of the late Jack Hall Underwood, Sr. and Ida Ruth Roach Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Underwood. Jack proudly served his country as an Army Veteran. In his younger years, he worked in the family gas station business before later dedicating much of his life to raising chickens. He was a hardworking man who valued family, responsibility, and perseverance. For fifty years, Jack shared his life with his beloved wife, Gail Underwood. Their marriage was built on love, devotion, and taking care of one another through every season of life. During his final months, Jack took great pride in his new Maverick truck. It brought him joy and allowed him to continue doing something he loved, checking on things around town and making sure everything was okay.

Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail Jordan Underwood; children, Jack Underwood, III and his wife Lori of Calhoun, GA, Cheryl Underwood of Knoxville, TN, Dr. John Underwood of Baton Rouge, LA and Reba Moss and her husband Tim of Calhoun, Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Gregory Thomas and his wife Julia of Rome, GA, Jason Underwood and his soulmate Tayler Kay of Calhoun, GA, Grant Underwood and his wife Morgan of Calhoun, GA, Stephanie Fancher and her husband Chris of Knoxville, TN, and Caroline Moss of Calhoun, Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Everett Underwood, Aurora Riley, Levi Underwood, Andie Mae Underwood, Oliver Underwood, Graham Thomas, and August Fancher.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 11 AM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Jack Underwood, III officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.
