James Franklin Carver, age 74 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023 at his residence.
James was born on April 5, 1949, in Ludville, GA, son of the late Lance Albert Carver and Lois Patterson Carver. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by: brothers, Thurman Carver and wife Mary, Troy Carver and his wife Betty, and Howard Carver; sister, Edna Carver Watson; and a special friend, Max Brannon. James was a graduate of Pickens County High School Class of 1967. After graduating from high school, James helped with the forming of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home in 1967 and was a funeral director there for more than 51 years. James was elected to the Gordon County Coroners office in 1977, serving as the longest serving Coroner in Gordon County, 2nd longest in the State of Georgia. He was a member of the Sonora Masonic Lodge F&AM #221 where he was Past-Master.
James is survived by: a sister-in-law, Judy Carver; a brother-in-law, Emory Watson; his god-child, Megan Abernathy of Cartersville, GA; nieces and nephews, David Carver and his wife Jamica, Courtney Carver, Cody Carver, Stacy Henderson and her husband Brian, Caleb Henderson, Julia Collett and her husband Ryan, Cooper Collett, Sandy Jaco and her husband Jason, Tanner Jaco, Jared Jaco, Tony Watson, and his wife Samantha, Cooper Watson, and Kevin Watson; close friends, Todd Abernathy, and Robert Abernathy.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 4 PM until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 3 PM from Ball Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Wallace Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Hinton Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving are his Masonic friends from Sonora Lodge and include: Ken Greeson, Junior Densmore, Jerry Mauldin, Charlie Long, Jimmy Fox, Tommy White, Randy Smith, Sr., and Tim Cooper. They are requested to meet at the church on Sunday, July 2, at 1:30PM.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Gordon County Deputy Coroners, Sheriff’s Department, Gordon County Emergency Medical Services, the Georgia State Patrol Post #43, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Calhoun Police Department. They are requested to meet at the church on Sunday, July 2 at 2:45PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to the Sonora Masonic Lodge F&AM #221.
