James Billy Green

James Billy Green, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Gordon Health Care. Billy was born on September 30, 1938 in Bartow County, GA to the late John Everett Green and Catherine Louie Pruitt Green. In addition to his parents, Billy was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Marion Green. Billy was an alumnus of Cassville High School, Young Harris College, and an honor graduate of the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. He was owner and operator of Greenbrook Carpet Company, and later acquired Woolshire Carpet Mills. He was a member of Calhoun First United Methodist Church. He was also a board member and volunteer for the Winner’s Club. In his free time, Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, volunteering, supporting his children’s many activities, UGA football games, and spending time with family and friends. Billy is survived by: his wife, Angela Baxter Green of Calhoun; son, Terry James Green and his wife Carmen of Calhoun; two daughters, Sherri Anne Green of Washington, DC, and Merri Catherine Green Thomas and her husband, Nick of Tallahassee, FL; sister-in-law, Sue Ellen Green of Cohutta; five grandchildren, Rachel Mary Green, Sarah Abigail Green, Sophie Sherri Thomas, Luke Preston Thomas, and Nolan Andrew Thomas. The family would like to give special thanks to Care at Home, Morning Pointe Assisted Living, Gordon Health Care, Mary Garrigan, Rita Davis, and Compassus Hospice. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 22nd at 11:30 AM from the Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ed Archer, Jim Lay, and Joe Campbell officiating. Personal Testimonies will be given by his children, Terry, Merri, and Sherri. Heart and Soul will have charge of music. Interment will follow in Cassville Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are: Shelby Peeples, Suttle Hunt, John Baxter, Phil Meadows, Terry Childers, Dale Bentley, Jim Mathews, and Douglas Hasty. Honorary Pallbearers are: Tom Peeples, Larry Roy, Steve Powell, John Carden, Gerry Green, Allen Robertson, Jim Silvers, Harold Shaw, David Lance, Doug Johnson, Larry House, Buzzy McMillian, Ed Lewis, Dick Gilbert, Ed Weldon, Tom Shannahan, Charlie Robinson, Eddie Peterson, Larry Black, Paul LeBlanc, and Tim Haney. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:15 AM until the funeral hour at 11:30 AM at the Calhoun First United Methodist Church.
