Jessie Ellen Thomas

Jessie Ellen Dean Thomas, age 87 of Smyrna, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at her residence. Ellen was born on November 20, 1930 in Calhoun, GA to the late Price Dean Jr. and Ruth Holsomback Dean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Allen Thomas, her siblings, Billy Dean, Donald Dean, Edward Dean, Joyel Dean Sr., Elease Acree, and Clara Shugart. She spent the early years of her life in Gordon County, and then moved to Smyrna where she has resided the past 60 years. Ellen retired from Avon and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church of Smyrna. Ellen sponsored and assisted several Vietnam refugees into the United States. She enjoyed being a caregiver and helping people. Ellen is survived by her son, Jeffrey Mark Thomas of Loganville, GA; daughter, Mary Thomas Rich and her husband John of Smyrna; three grandchildren, Sierra Rich, Joshua Thomas, and Stephanie Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Kira Rich and Lane Rich. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, December 23rd at 12 noon from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Lane Tow officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Sugar Valley Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the funeral from 10 AM until the funeral hour at 12 noon at Thomas Funeral Home.
