Jimmie C. Avery, Sr.

Jimmie C. Avery, Sr. age 86, of Calhoun, passed away peacefully at his home Monday afternoon July 10th surrounded by his loving family.

 

Jimmie was born February 28, 1937, in Gordon County, son of the late Ernest C. Avery and Mollie Rich Avery. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and the Georgia National Guard. Jimmie was a member of the Meadowdale Baptist Church and was employed by OMC prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Oothcaloga Masonic Lodge #154, the Echota Vann Shrine Club, the VFW Post #5376, and was past-Commander of the Calhoun American Legion Post #47. Jimmie loved motorcycles but he worshiped his boys.

 

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, George Avery.

 

He is survived by his wife, Edna Waits Avery; three sons, Jimmie C. Avery Jr. and his wife Debra, Richard Avery and his wife Selena, and Howell Avery and his wife Amber; four stepchildren, Pamela Lindsey, Franklin Holland, Bobby Hogg, and Sammy Holland. Jerry “Fro” Sisk, II who was like a son to him, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. 

 

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday July 13th at 3pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Drew Startup officiating. Masonic Honors will be afforded following the funeral service by the Oothcaloga Masonic Lodge.

 

Burial with United States Navy Honors will be conducted Friday July 14th at 9:30am in the Georgia National Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 9pm at the funeral home.
