Johnny Morris Jacks

May 5, 1944 — January 17, 2024

Plainville

Johnny Morris Jacks, age 79, moved on from this world and into heaven on January 17, 2024. He passed away at Floyd Medical Center, while surrounded by his family, after a short illness. He was proof that age was just a number, because he lived each day to the fullest.

In our lives there have been few people as special as Johnny Jacks. He was quite possibly the funniest man you’ve ever met. He would make you laugh until you cry.  Every thought that came to his mind came out; good, bad, embarrassing, or indifferent, but he always left you smiling. To know him, was to love him. What “Unk” was known most for was the love that he showed to his family and friends. He loved hard and loved all children and had a special way with them. Although his life ended way before we were ready, the memories and love that he left us with will last forever.

Johnny was born on May 5, 1944, at home, in Gordon County, to Mary Brown Jacks, and Donald Lee Jacks. Both preceding him in death.

In 1962 Johnny met and fell in love with Judy Ann Stuart when she was just 15. They married four years later, in 1966, and have been married for 57 amazing years. They shared a beautiful life together full of laughter and memories. He was her other half…They exemplified to everyone what it takes to equal one another out, and make a marriage last a lifetime.

Johnny was also preceded in his death by his three sisters:  Patsy Dixon, Polly Hightower, and Betty Jean Prater. He has one surviving brother, Steve Jacks.

Ironically, Johnny’s brother, Murel Jacks, passed away on the same day that Johnny did. Murel was standing at heaven’s gates waiting on “Unk.” Murel had lived with Johnny and Judy since 1990. Johnny had always promised his mother and father that he would always take care of Murel, now he is taking care of him in heaven too.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Jacks.
Two beloved daughters, Jennifer O’Neal and Belinda Smith. Their spouses: Jared O’Neal, and Kacee Smith.
He took extreme pride in his Four grandchildren:  Amberly Hooks, Addison Dortch, Kacedon Smith, and Kacelee Smith.
Amberly’s spouse, Dylan Hooks; Addison’s fiancée: Jack Hooper & their soon to be son, Austin Hooper;
Special God child: Leslie Wood
Several special nieces, nephews, friends and family members.

Unk spent his career doing auto body work. He enjoyed building custom cars, riding his Harley, and riding his tractor on the property. He had many special talents including cooking and decorating.

Johnny was a member of the Plainville Church of God of Prophecy.
He was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the Plainville Lodge.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the ICU staff at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center. Especially Dr. Barbieri, Dr. Kunal Patel, Julie Holyoak with Palliative Care, and our very special nurses: Grayson, Ashley E., Noah, Sarah, Halle, and Leah.
Our special CNA, Natalie, and Taylor, ICU manager.

The family would be honored if everyone would join them to celebrate the amazing life that he had. If anyone would like to bring food, drinks, desserts, etc. to the event, feel welcome to, as we know Johnny would love this.

Johnny will be greatly missed, but the love he shared will continue to live on in our memories forever.
