Joseph Godwin Poole

Friday, May 25, 2007 Mr. Joseph Godwin Poole, age 76, of Calhoun. Died Friday morning May 25th in Gordon Health Care. Following several months of declining health. Mr. Poole was born in Brevard, N.C., February 11, 1931. Son of the late Joseph N. and Mayron Rose Godwin Poole. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict with the 87th Airborne Division. Mr. Poole was a Graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, he was a expert pilot and member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement he was the director of the Housing Authority Board where in served for more than 10 years. Survivors include his wife of 53 years Betty S. Poole of Calhoun. One son and his wife, Stephen Michael and Cindy Poole of Varnel. Brother in law, Bruce Smathers of Buford. Two Grandsons, Joseph Zachary and Austin Michael Poole. One granddaughter, Chandler McKenzie Poole also survives. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Diabetes Association. Memorial services will be announced later with Thomas Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Joseph Godwin Poole.
