Rita Joyce Brownlee

Miss Rita Joyce Brownlee, age 87 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.

Joyce was born on March 15, 1935 in Gordon County, GA, daughter of the late Lawrence Creswell Brownlee and Inez Kendrick Brownlee. In addition to her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by: three brothers, Thomas Carleton Brownlee, John Brownlee, and Creswell Brownlee; one sister, Joanne Brownlee Whisler; and two nephews, Bruce Brownlee and John Brownlee. Joyce was an alumna of Calhoun High School and Agnes Scott College. She enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, reading and was a brilliant mathemetician.  She was a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church where she sung in the church choir and with the "Heart and Soul" ensemble.

Joyce is survived by: three nephews, Jack Whisler, Lawrence Brownlee, and Joe Whisler; two nieces, Amanda Rice and Sarah Thurston; brother-in-law, John Whisler; five great-nephews, Yianni Whisler, Zachary Whisler, Daniel Rice, Jonathan Rice, and Jackson Brownlee; five great-nieces, Carly Whisler, Paige Whisler, Kelsey Blalock, Laurel Brownlee Roberts, Ashlan Rice, and Katherine Brownlee; and great-great-nephews, Daniel Rice’s children & Jonathan Rice’s children.  

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 3 PM from the First Methodist Church with Reverend Ed Archer officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 1 PM until the service hour at 3 PM at the First Methodist Church.
