Joyce Mitchell Gulledge

Joyce Mitchell Gulledge, 80, of Kannapolis, NC, and formerly of the Plainville community passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.

Joyce was born on February 2, 1944, in Rowan County, NC to the late Austin Augustus Mitchell and Kathleen Pethel Mitchell. Joyce was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis where she was a member of the WMU. Prior to her retirement, she worked many years as an office administrator for Western Auto and Impact Furniture in Calhoun, and with Medical Modalities in Kannapolis. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry Deaton and Rodney Gulledge (Tammy), daughter, Cynthia Pittmon (Dell), stepdaughters Tammy Rivers (Hatch), Glenda Slocum (Bryan), and Darlene Keith (Clifton), Grandchildren, Baylee Gulledge, Nikki Deaton Hunt, Julia Deaton, Steve Swann, Amy Teeters, Heather Rivers and Amber Rivers, great-grandchildren, Nathan Augustus Hunt, Addison Swann, Morgan Swann, Liam and Lilly Rivers.

Close personal friends who were always by her side, were Mrs. Vicki Waldrop, Ms. Jo Juda, and Mr. David Petra.

Pallbearers for the service include Mr. David Petra, Mr. James Crump, Mr. Jasper Furr, Mr. Bill Sorrell, Mr. Devin Wilson, and Mr. Casey Rickart.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd. Kannapolis, NC 28083, with the service beginning at 3:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Leigh and Rev. Joy Garmon officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
