Lawrence Chastain Moss also known as Moose, age 84 of Ranger, passed away on Saturday, August 21st at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.
Lawrence was born on March 18, 1937, to the late Grover Downey Moss and Clara Knight Moss. He began his working career in insurance sales and retired from City of Calhoun Fields Ferry Golf Course. He was a lifelong member at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and presently a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Lawrence was Past Master of Coosawattee Lodge #306 F&AM and a 52-year member. He served on the Gordon County Board of Education and a member in the Red Bud Booster Club. He served as a Justice of the Peace. Lawrence loved life and especially enjoyed coaching Youth in baseball, basketball, and football. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Truett Moss, James Moss and his wife Ila, G.D. Moss and his wife Alice, and Sam Moss; sisters, Julia Lou Hunt and her husband Lee, and Clara Bess Weaver and her husband Larkin; brother-in-laws, Jerry Childs, Ray Noland, and Lester Knight.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Knight Moss; sons, Chastain Moss II and his wife Trina, Shane Moss and his wife Julie; daughter, Carmen Penland and her husband Stan; six grandchildren, Brandon Penland, Dustin Penland and his wife Shawna, Darah Tetrault and her husband Joe, Dalyn Moss, Kaitlin Moss, and Chazz Moss; eight great-grandchildren, Keagan Cusick, Kohen Cusick, Kessler Cussick, Kane Scott, Blakely Penland, Everly Penland, Elynn Penland, and Baylon Hight; siter-in laws, Hazel Moss, Yvonne Moss, Carolyn Childs, Debbie Noland, and Jean Casey and her husband Jerry.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 24th at 3 PM from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Lamar Bearden, and Reverend Winford Casey officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the Masonic graveside rites afforded by Coosawattee Lodge #306 F&AM of Pine Chapel. Pallbearers serving are, Dustin Penland, Brandon Penland, Chazz Moss, Truett Moss II, Greg Weaver, and Bryan Childs. Granddaughters, and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 24th at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church from 1 PM until the funeral hour of 3.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund or the Gideons.
