Max Milton Hurley, age 87, of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Advent Health Gordon.

Max was born on February 14, 1938, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Buster and May Belle Hurley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: five brothers, Buster Hurley, Jr., Joe Bob Hurley, Charles Hurley, James Hurley, and David Hurley; sister, Betty Jane Chambers; and son, Max M. Hurley, Jr. Max found love twice in his life and was also preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Barbara Morgan Hurley.

Max was a member of the Sugar Valley Masonic Lodge No.733 F&AM and the Cherokee Promenaders. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Damascus Baptist Church. He was a mechanical engineer by trade he designed and built machines for the carpet industry, many of which are still used. He served in the National Guard for 10 years. He enjoyed beekeeping as a hobby.

Max is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Sharon Church; daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Sammy Worley of Calhoun; daughter in law, Vicki Hurley of Texas, grandson, Micah Worley and his wife Katie of Tampa, FL; step-son, Jeff May and his wife Ashley of Monroe, GA; Jeff’s children, Walker May and his wife Lindsey, Reagan May, and Caroline May; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 4 PM until 6 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 1 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Trivitt officiating, followed by flag presentation and Masonic services. Burial will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with Walker May in charge of graveside rites.

Pallbearers serving include Micah Worley, Keith Hurley, Phillip Hurley, Ron Stauffer, Steven Cornwell, and Reagan May.

Honorary Pallbearers include: The Sugar Valley Masonic Lodge Members No. 733 F&AM and Jimmy Duvall.
