Ms. Peggy Jane Pate, of Calhoun, GA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at her residence.

Ms. Pate was the daughter of the late Ezra Calvin Pate and Hattie Harper Pate. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Gregory Lynch, and her sisters, Alice Pate French, Betty Ann Pate, and Evelyn Ann Pate.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina Sue Sowell and her husband, Joe Tom Sowell of Calhoun, and Sabrina Lynch Guthrie and her husband, Kerry L. Guthrie of Acworth, Georgia; one son, Phillip David Lynch, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Eatonton.

Ms. Pate is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Born in Calhoun, GA on April 19, 1939, she graduated from Calhoun High School in 1957. After graduation, she attended Carson Newman University later graduating from the Cooper Institute (School of Business) in Knoxville, TN with honors.

She returned to Calhoun and joined in working with her family business, Pate's 5 & 10 Store. Shortly thereafter, she married and began her family becoming a Homemaker in Calhoun later moving to Knoxville, TN, then Marietta, GA and finally Plano, TX. In Plano, TX, she owned and operated RSP Quality Vending moving back to GA to help with her mother and Special needs sister. Later she opened Artistic Designs by Peggy in June 1995, a florist in Calhoun, GA. She sold the business in 2006 and retired.

Peggy was a follower of Jesus Christ and her Lord was her first love. She also loved others as herself. She was a member of First Baptist Church and always wanted to be at church when the doors opened.

Peggy loved her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was a source of great Joy to her and they all knew her as "Nanny." She enjoyed going to any of their events, ballgames, ballet concerts, or theatre performances. Family gathering were important whether birthdays, holidays, or special occasions. 

Peggy was giving of her time, talent, and money as she always would volunteer to help at school, church, or community. She loved children and enjoyed helping in the nursery and with VBS at the church whenever needed. 

She believed in people and always took up for the underdog. She enjoyed arranging flowers and cooking. She loved music especially gospel music.

If you ever came in contact with her, she usually would tell you she loved you as you left. After only a few visits, she would say she loved you with all her heart. God is love and Peggy tried to spread God's love. She had a life that was well lived. 

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 3 PM at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home, with Dr. John Barber officiating. The family will receive friends at the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home from 1 - 3 PM, preceding the funeral.

Pallbearers are Christopher Powell, Matthew Powell, Nathan Guthrie, Jason Evans, Zach Stidham, and Shane DeFreitas.
