Robert Dewey Erwin, born August 13, 1934 in Adairsville, GA to the late Mark & Nellie Erwin went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2021 after a long battle with dementia and most recently with Covid. Bob graduated from high school in 1951 and attended North Georgia University where he majored in Chemistry and minored in Physics. He participated in ROTC and upon graduation he entered the US Army and traveled to Germany. Upon his return he went to work at Celanese in Rome, GA and married the love of his life, Lynda Jane Stripling on June 18th, 1961. He was relocated to Pearisburg, VA in 1978. Bob remained with Celanese as a Statistical Process Control Manager, obtaining his Six Sigma Black Belt, until his retirement in 1993. He immediately took a job with Underwriters Laboratories as an Auditor and moved to Cary, NC. In 1998 he retired for good. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cary and the Faith and Freedom Sunday School class. He played some golf, and was an avid reader, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Summer vacations at the beach with family were his favorite times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda, and his brother Maurice. He is survived by his three children, Hannah Erwin of Oak Island, NC, John Erwin and wife Marcia of Oak Island, and Joe Erwin and wife Jill of Richmond, VA; Grandchildren Katie Erwin and husband, Kyle Brolis of Pilesgrove, NJ, Rachel Erwin of Oak Island, Mark Erwin of Wilmington, Grace Erwin and Preston Erwin both of Richmond, VA; sister JoAnn Baxter of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nevin Erwin and wife Anita of Calhoun, GA; and multiple nieces and nephews. Bob was always a gentleman and always looking for ways to help his family. He was kind to everyone and always up for doing anything someone suggested. His love for his family colored everything he did and he will be missed by all. The family will have a private interment at First United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Alzheimers Association or First United Methodist Church Cary.
