Ruby Inez Richardson

Ruby Inez Richardson, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in Gordon Hospital. Ruby was born on August 22, 1931 to the late Frank J. Richardson and Mattie Love Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William Thomas (Tommy), Henry Duke, Charlie, John Frank (Bo), and James Milton Richardson; sisters, Winnie Richardson Watkins, Syble Richardson Swafford, and Anne Moore. Ruby was an alumna of Belwood High School, a member of the Gordon County Championship Girls Basketball team of 1948, and was named the Gordon County All-Star player of the year. After living in Summerville, Georgia for 46 years, Ruby returned to Gordon County in 2002. She was a long time member of Blackwood Springs Baptist Church. Ruby is survived by one daughter, Sheila Harkins of Summerville; grandson, Wes Harkins; sisters, Susie Richardson Gray of Calhoun, Frances Richardson Ball of Calhoun, and Margaret Richardson Cartwright and her husband Bill of Marietta; sister-in-law, Helen Richardson; and brother-in-law, Robert Watkins. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 10th at 11 AM at Blackwood Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Walter Hare officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwood cemetery with Reverend Paul Whitton officiating. Pallbearers serving will be nephews and great-nephews, Keith Richardson, Jimmy Gray, Jacin Gray, Ron Watkins, Robert Watkins Jr,, and Cole Webster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. J. Alan Webster, Jr., Lynn Richardson, Lawrence Richardson, John Richardson, David and Virginia Patterson, Randy McEntyre, Martha Lance, and the Joy Sunday School Class (Bob Lance, Evelyn Stephens, Mary Goss, Barbara Greeson). The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 PM until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
