Ruth Shaw Carter

Sunday, September 10, 2006 Mrs. Ruth Shaw Carter, age 77 of Calhoun died at 2:50 PM, Sunday, September 10, 2006 in Calhoun Health Care. Ruth was born in Gordon County, November 14, 1928, daughter of the late Dudley Shaw and Bell Samples Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elkus “Shorty” Carter, August 9, 1999; 3 sisters and 6 brothers. She was a lifetime resident of Gordon County and was a member of the Blackwood Springs Baptist Church. Ruth is survived by one son, Jim Carter; one daughter, Teresa Chastain and her husband Parks; 5 grandchildren, Christy Shaw, Allen Chastain, Katie Carter, Rebecca Brown, and Maggie Carter all of Calhoun; Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 13 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Clay Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 PM, Tuesday, and burial will be in Blackwood Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. Thomas Funeral Home has charge of arrangements for the services of Ruth Shaw Carter.
