Shirley Mae Rogers, age 88, of Resaca, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 23rd, at her residence.
Shirley was born in the Fall of the year 1936, in Gordon County, the daughter of the late Herman Robert Peace and Laura Elizabeth Rickett Peace. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and was a proud member of the 1955 graduating class of Sonoraville High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac “Sammy” Rogers, and three sisters, Lois Nell Stone Gray, Lucille Sullivan, and Inez Edwards; and her brothers-in-law, Herman Stone, Ralph Gray, Charles Sullivan, and Jerry Edwards, and her son in law, Frank Sparkman.
Survivors include her daughters, Shelia Barbee, Pam Sparkman, Lisa Smith and her husband, David; grandchildren, William Sparkman, Emily Sparkman, and Robert Sparkman; Nieces and nephews, Michael Stone, Stacey Smith and her husband Ricky, Mark Edwards and his wife Sherrie, Pat Westbrook Womack and her husband Donald, and Herman Westbrook and his wife Sue.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Mildred Ballard, Karen Kirby, and Amanda Long, for their kindness and love.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 26th at 2:00 P.M. at the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Stacey Hensley officiating and guest speaker Stacey Smith. Burial will follow in the Pine Chapel United Methodist Church. Pallbearers include Keith Brookshire, Mark Edwards, Billy Faucett, Ryan Holden, Bill Price, Ricky Smith, Michael Stone, Herman Westbrook, and Donald Womack. The staff of Homespun Hospice will serve as honorary escorts.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 noon until 2 pm before the funeral.
