Steve Mitchell "Turkey" Ross, age 76, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, at AdventHealth Redmond. He was born on November 20, 1947, in Blue Ridge. As we celebrate his life, we reflect on the many roles he played and the impact he had on his family and friends.

Steve had a diverse career throughout his life. He spent a significant amount of time working as a Chicken House Worker at Fairmount Poultry and later transitioned into becoming a Construction Worker. He exhibited immense dedication and commitment to his work, always giving his best effort to every task at hand.

Beyond the workplace, Steve enjoyed various hobbies and interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. He had a deep passion for fishing and cherished spending time outdoors. These activities allowed him to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the world around him.

Family was paramount to Steve, and he held his loved ones close to his heart. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Howard and Grace Kerns; two brothers, Mike Ross and Raymond Dockery; sister, Sue Ross; and grandchildren, Daniel Young, Alek Baldwin, and Braylee Charles.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife Deborah Sue Tate Young, with whom he shared many moments of love and companionship. They created a lifetime of memories together.

Steve's legacy lives on through his children: Amanda Young, Keith Young, Melissa Baldwin, Jason Young, Tonya Ward, and Greg Ross (brother), Loyd Harris (brother), Deborah Harris (sister-in-law), Kim Ross (sister-in-law), Mike Ross (brother), Raymond Dockery (brother), Sue Ross (sister), Louis Brackett
(sister), Carolyn Worley (sister), Janice Silvers (sister), Gene Winkler (sister), Edna Goble (sister), Wilma Southerner (sister), Lori Young (daughter-in-law), Tony Baldwin (son-in-law), Henry Ward (son-in-law).

He will forever be remembered as a doting grandfather to Steven Young, Daniel Young, Alexander Baldwin, Braylee Charles, Savannah Young, Ansleigh Young, Cameron Young, Rett Young, Maddie Young, Noah Childers, Jeremy Young, Aulbery Baldwin, Aspen Baldwin, Jordan Baldwin, Summer Schmitz, Dawson Young, Chason Young, Grayson Young, Ariel Young, Mackenzie Young, Devin Ward, and Dillon Ward.

Moreover, Steve found immense joy in being a great-grandfather to Alena Young, Gracelee Young, Zakai Schimtz, Oggie Prevette, Kaiden Ward, Emberly Ward, Landon Baldwin, Colton Baldwin, Davina Baldwin, and Aleena Baldwin.

Steve's presence in the lives of his family and friends will be deeply missed. He leaves a lasting impact as an exceptional individual who spread love, kindness, and happiness to those around him.

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 15th at 1 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Timms officiating. Burial will follow at Fidele Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are as follows: Dawson Young, Aspen Baldwin, Aulbery Baldwin, Keenan Schmitz, Steven Young, and Cameron Young.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14th from 5PM until 7PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
