Thursday, July 05, 2007 Mr. W.C. “Bill” Burdette, age 77, of Calhoun. Died peacefully at his home Monday night July 2. Following several months of declining health. Bill was born in Decatur on April 7, 1930. Son of the late James Miles and Addie Layton Burdette. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Marine Corps. Bill was always very active in his community where he served as Mayor of Calhoun from 1974 – 1985. He was also proud of his work with the Gideons. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Moore Burdette in February of this year. Two sisters JoAnn Burdette and Virginia Brodgon also precede him. Survivors include two sons, Brent and his wife Rhonda of Calhoun, and Rob Burdette of Palm Dessert ,Ca.. One brother, James and his wife Sarah of Rome. Two Sisters, Margaret Sears of Hartwell and Carolyn Clements of Avondale Estates. Two grandchildren, Anna and Luke Burdette both of Calhoun. Funeral services will be conducted Friday July 6th at 11AM from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Donnie Hudgins officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. The Gideons will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday July 5th from 2 –4 and 6 – 9 PM.
